"text": "The first player to mention is former MLB slugger Franmil Reyes who has brought his homer hitting ways to the NPB. Currently playing for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, Reyes has been a Top 10 hitter in the Pacific League this year. He ranks 6th in batting average at a .280 clip, while leading the Pacific League in home runs (21) and RBI (65). These numbers are even more impressive when you consider he posted 25 home runs and 65 RBI in 103 games last year, displaying consistency to match if not surpass his production from last year. His production has been a huge part of the Ham Fighters currently 2nd in the Pacific League with a 60-39-2 record. Reyes has for the second straight season has been one of the premiere power hitters in the NPB and we will see if his international production nets him looks from MLB clubs going into this year’s offseason.",

The former Chicago Cub and Red Sox/Padres prospect is in his 2nd year with the Buffaloes and is having another quality season. In his first NPB season last year he posted 7 wins and a 2.63 ERA in 22 games. This year in 16 appearances he has 3 wins, 86 strikeouts and a 3.28 ERA in 93.1 innings, being a solid rotation piece for Orix. Tyler Nevin played 192 games over 4 seasons with the Orioles, Tigers, and A’s hitting just .204 with 12 career homers. Now in his first season of international baseball with Seibu has posted a .289 average and 11 home runs in 102 games this season. He is 5th in batting average and is leading the Pacific League in doubles with 22 highlighting some quality gap power. Despite the Lions playing to a sub-.500 record at 46-52-2 Nevin has grasped his opportunity to play everyday in Japan and is having his best professional baseball season thus far.",

"text": "Former MLB reliever Andres Machado is the next former stateside pro to discuss tearing it up in the NPB. Machado previously got MLB experience with the Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals over a 4-year big-league career – 3 with the Nationals. Now after posting an underwhelming 4.48 ERA during his time in the Majors, he has found significant success overseas in Japan. In 42 games this season Machado has been one of the top relievers in the NPB. He has posted a 1.56 ERA in 40.1 innings, while putting up an impressive 50 strikeouts over those frames. He has been a great late game reliver picking up 19 saves and 7 holds on the year. His 19 saves ranks second in the Pacific League as he has settled in as one of the top closers in the league. Overall, after an up-and-down MLB stint he has refined himself as a bullpen arm and now should feel confident in getting some looks from teams to come back stateside this offseason.",

"text": "The final player to highlight that has made a name for himself on the international circuit this year is Spencer Howard. The right-hander spent 5 years in the Majors with 4 different franchises, these being Philadelphia, Texas, San Francisco, and Cleveland. Howard compiled an ERA of 7.00 in 47 career MLB games – certainly less than impressive – but now has begun his NPB career strong. In six games thus far with the Rakuten Golden Eagles Howard has posted a 1.53 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched. He has also compiled a spotless 4-0 record as one of the clubs’ better arms since his arrival. Now despite this Rakuten is only 47-50-2 on the year but Howard has quickly made himself an intriguing piece for their staff that could stick through into next season. At the same time if Howard can continue this run of success for the rest of the Eagles season, he may have a few MLB clubs knocking on his door.",

Pitcher Carter Stewart is an arm the reigning champion SoftBank Hawks are happy to have returning this 2026. Stewart missed the beginning of last season for the club with a left abdominal muscle strain; in a season he ended up not making an appearance for SoftBank. Now he comes into the 2026 campaign ready to add to a pitching staff that was instrumental in their run to a 2025 Championship. Stewart has put together solid numbers over his previous 3 seasons, pitching to a 2.89 ERA, a 12-12 record, and 208 strikeouts. This includes an impressive 9-win and 1.95 ERA over 20 appearances in the 2024 campaign. It will be interesting to follow a year away from the NPB mound if Stewart becomes a regular for the Hawks again. If he can regain his 2024 form, he can truly bolster a formidable pitching staff that will look to lead the Hawks to become repeat Champs.",

"text": "For Rodolfo Castro he is one of the newcomers to the NPB for the 2026 season and looks to add another lively bat to a Nippon club that finished Japan Series Runner-ups last season. Castro – a former Pittsburgh Pirate and Philadelphia Phillies – brings infield versatility to Nippon with experience playing second base, shortstop, and third base. It is though his bat that makes him an asset as he presents the possibility of some power from a middle infield spot. In 194 career MLB games he collected 43 extra base hits including 22 home runs. This type of power for a primary middle infielder is valuable, and you add him to lineup that features 2025 MVP Runner up Franmil Reyes, and it expands the number of threats in an elite Ham Fighters lineup. If Castro can refine his stroke and unlock some of his untapped potential with this opportunity, he can be a true X-factor for the Ham Fighters.",

Coming off an MVP Runner-up season in 2025 and 57 home runs over last two seasons in the league the former Padres, Guardians, Royals, and Cubs Slugger is looking to post another tremendous campaign as the star DH for the Nippon Ham Fighters. His 32 homers, 90 RBI season last year was an uptick from his 25 homer, 65 RBI season in 2024. Which means there is a strong possibility he again could se his slugging numbers rise in 2026. Now as the focal point of the team who finished as the top offense in the NPB in 2025, he will get pitched even tougher. But there is no reason still to believe Reyes won’t again be in the MVP hunt while looking to help bash his club to a 2026 Japan Series victory.",

Urena has a combination of a ton of major league experience and intriguing versatility mound that will make him a major asset for Rakuten. Urena bring a full pitch mix of a sinker, slider, changeup, fastball, and split. Presenting a strong mid to high 90s sinker and fastball with a slider best used against righties and change a swing and miss pitch versus lefties. He has 158 career MLB starts showcasing the experience to still contribute as a starter. But adding to the opportunities across multiple big-league clubs he got as a reliever his last couple pro seasons and the options he can provide for the Golden Eagles staff are interesting. ",

He at the same time presents a high probability of swing and missing, which also will be something he must adjust to find success in this league. He, in 87 plate appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates, hit 6 home runs and collected 20 RBI so there is talent there to be unlocked. This is why he is a good gamble for Seibu to take on because if he can be the latest import to discover his professional swing then that adds a major boost to a Seibu club in need of more offensive firepower.",

In his first NPB season with the Seibu Lions Wingenter finished tied for 3rd in total strikeouts by Pacific League relievers with 69 in just 46.2 innings pitched. His 1.74 ERA was 6th among qualified relief pitchers in the Pacific League. Plus, he allowed the 5th fewest hits among Pacific League relievers last season. The combination of a high 90s fastball and power slider made him immediately one of the best swing and miss arms in Japan in 2025. Now as 2026 approaches after flourishing in a set-up man role last year, he could get some more looks in a closer’s role. But if Seibu elects though to keep him in a 7th – 8th inning type role they can feel confident that those innings will be in good hands.",

"text": "Alonzo Verge Jr., 27 years old, has been a bona fide offensive weapon going back to his prep days. As a high school sophomore, after taking a year off from basketball as a freshman to focus on academics averaged 23 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Then he leveled up his senior year after transferring to Thornton Township High School, where he averaged 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists per game to finish his high school career. He continued this level of production into his collegiate career, over his 5-year span from 2017-2022, with three different programs he produced. Verge Jr. posted averages of 16 PPG and 4 assists. Doing this while winning Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year as a junior at Arizona State and 2019 MCCAC Player of the Year as a Sophomore at Moberly Area Community College. Despite all this, he went undrafted in the NBA, and starting in 2022, transitioned his pursuit of a professional career overseas.",

"text": "Now, before Verge Jr. made his way to the easyCredit BBL, he played for six other international clubs prior. Eventually, Verge officially signed with Rasta Vechta on July 21st, 2025, and from the jump has been one of the league's best players. Verge has played in 20 of the 21 games Rasta Vechta has played this year and has been a dynamic lead guard for his new squad. He thus far is averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. He ranks both 3rd in points per game and assists per game through Round 21 of this current season, doing so while shooting 50.0% from two-point range and 35.7% from three. Verge has also scored double figures in all but three games this season. While having 11 games with at least 6 assists under his belt. All this means Verge has been efficient and one of the most productive players in the BBL and on the international circuit this campaign. Verge has not just shown his ability on the BBL regular season stage, but across multiple competitions as well. In 3 BBL Cup Games for the club this year, he averaged 24.3 points, 5.3 assists, and shot 58.5% from two-point range. Then in 8 FIBA Eurocup Games, he averaged 15.1 points, 8.1 assists, and shot 59.7% from two-point range. Thus, Verge has performed at multiple levels of international competition.",

"text": "Le Dee ended up not playing much in his freshman season with the Buckeyes, playing just 171 total minutes, averaging 3.0 ppg and 1.7 rpg. This led to his transfer to TCU, where he would see an uptick in his playing time, but not enough for his on-court impact to be felt, finishing with averages of 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds. Following this two-season stretch with the Horned Frogs, Le Dee transferred again, heading west to play for the San Diego State Aztecs. With this move, Le Dee finally found a home where he became a valuable piece to a program’s success. In his first season, Le Dee played a key reserve role, averaging 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds. He and the Aztecs went on to make the program’s first Final Four and NCAA Tournament Championship Game appearance in school history. After this year, he declared for the 2023 draft but never hired an agent and returned to San Diego State for one last season. This year was his breakout campaign, as his production skyrocketed in his new starter’s role. He averaged 21.4 points and 8.4 rebounds and finished the season leading the Mountain West in six different statistical categories. All this while leading the Aztecs to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.",

Now in his first full year playing international basketball, he has run with his opportunity. Le Dee signed with the Fraport Skyliners of the easyCredit BBL on July 1st, 2025, and this has turned out to be a slam dunk of a signing for the club. Le Dee is averaging 18.7 points per game, which is ranked 2nd best in the BBL, while leading the BBL in rebounding at 10.1 per game. Add in that he is shooting a very effective 55.8% from inside the arc, and Le Dee has been one of the most consistently productive players in the BBL. To highlight his best performance, it came November 8th versus Brose Bamberg when he posted an impressive 20 points and 21 rebounds. His contribution to the team’s improvement can’t be understated, as at 8-9 this season, they have already equaled the club’s win total from last year. Jaedon Le Dee has been a major contributing factor to the club’s already exceeding expectations this year and has them in the hunt for a playoff spot.",
